MaliniPalayamkottai or Maliniis a 2014 Indian film, directed by Sripriya. It stars Nithya Menen in the title role while Krish J. Sathaar and Naresh play supporting roles. A remake of the Malayalam filmFemale Kottayam 2012 by Aashiq Abu, the film features musical score by ArvindShankar. It was released onJanuary 2014.

Malini stays at Varuns apartment, gets seduced by his charms, and they both get intimate. The next day, when Malini is alone, Varuns boss Prakash Naresh comes and rapes her. Varun vows to take revenge and convinces Malini that they relocate to Coimbatore. There she gets arrested for carrying illegal drugs and is lodged in prison. She finds out that Varun and his partnerincrime Prakash have conspired to get her arrested. The rest of the story is about how she takes revenge against Varun and Prakash.MaliniPalayamkottai received mixed reviews from critics. Baradwaj Rangan wrote, Theres not one convincing moment in the movie. The performances are broad, the staging is most basic, and too much time is spent on Malinis dreary backstory. The minor victory of the film is that we get to hear the Fword, in all its unbeepedout glory. Sify wrote, Its unfair to compare the original with a remake in another language but a film that had all the ingredients which will make the audiences glued to their seats never come together and ends up as a damp squib. The Times Of India gave itstars out ofand wrote, Even if director Sripriya had stuck close to the original, we would have got an engaging thriller, but here, bludgeons even the tiniest bit of subtlety found in the original to give us a clumsy film that attempts to form a social awakening while putting its viewers to sleep. The New Indian Express called it a disappointing fare. Comparisons are odious, but inevitable.
